SOMERSET, Pa. (WJAC) — More businesses will begin reopening their doors Friday morning at the beginning of the yellow phase in Bedford, Blair, Cambria and Somerset counties.

One business in Somerset County, Merchant Village will be opening their doors for the first time in months.

Back in March, owner, Aleicia Zimmerman decided to close their doors as a coronavirus precaution.

“Everything was a little overwhelming. I don’t think we were sure what to expect and we just figured we would play it by ear. We were debating what to do when we understood when the governor said we had to shut down anyway,” said Zimmerman.

Now, weeks later, business will hopefully be booming again.

“First couple of weeks, everybody’s itchy you know they want to get out. You know let’s go let’s get this underway. And I’m glad she’s opening I think it’s going to work,” said one vendor at the Merchant Village, Clay Cramer.

With over 250 different vendors inside the Merchant Village, Zimmerman knew they were ready to reopen.

“I had been in contact with a lot of them, and getting so many messages about ‘When are we going to open?’ So, I felt confident that now is going to be a good time to open,” said Zimmerman.

The store will be following health and safety guidelines.

“We will have the plexiglass up at the register. We will have the marks on the floor to try and keep people from standing too close in line and we will probably put some signs around to ask people to distance as much as possible,” said Zimmerman.

Vendors are excited to get back to work. Not only to make some sales, but to help brighten people’s day.

“All these children are off of school now and they come in here and they just buy these ball cards up like there’s no tomorrow. And that’s my biggest thing because I love doing that for the kids,” said Cramer.

Merchant Village opens at 10am Friday, May 15. They ask customers to wear masks and to follow social distancing guidelines.
