UPMC Altoona Foundation to host annual 'happy feet' event providing free foot & ankle exams, boots &

Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — UPMC Altoona Elite Orthopedics in Hollidaysburg will be hosting its annual "happy feet" event this Friday. The practice partners with the UPMC Altoona Foundation, Family Services and Shoefly to raise money to purchase winter boots and socks for those in need. Each person will have a free foot and ankle exam and be fitted for new boots and socks. Anyone over 10 years old who is in need is eligible.

17 dogs covered in feces, rescued from deplorable home in Enola

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — The Human Society of Harrisburg (HSHA) is currently caring for over a dozen dogs that were rescued from a dangerous situation. According to HSHA, 17 "small dogs and puppies" were found back in November by HSHA's Humane Law Officer. The home they were living in was revealed to have been a house in Enola. Acting quickly, HSHA has already began treating them as their matted fur, also found to be covered in feces, requires special attention.

2 men arrested for alleged roles in northern border human smuggling scheme

SEATTLE (KOMO) — Two men connected to a northern border people smuggling scheme recently made their initial appearances in U.S. District Court in Seattle. Jesus Ortiz-Plata, 45, of Independence, Oregon, and Juan Pablo Cuellar Medina, 35, of Everett, Washington were arrested May 23 with three non-citizens who had been smuggled into the United States from Canada. The arrests were the result of a lengthy investigation by Homeland Security Investigation’s Border Security Enforcement Team (BEST), according to the Department of Justice (DOJ).

CFA announces over $425K in funding for dozens of area nonprofits

This week, the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies announced more than $425,000 in funding for local nonprofits. The funding was announced at two separate events this week. The foundation announced more than $225,000 in funding for its spring recipients. First, on Wednesday, at the Somerset Historical Center, the organization recognized 14 projects in Somerset County receiving grants. Then on Thursday, at the Everett Free Library, eleven nonprofit groups were recognized for getting nearly $43,000 in funding.

Four local wrestlers hope for a spot in the 2024 Olympics

World's longest serving flight attendant dies at age 88

WASHINGTON (WJLA) — Bette Nash flew for almost 67 years, joining Eastern Airlines back in 1957, when flights cost $12 and required no reservations. Her role at Eastern eventually brought her to American Airlines after American acquired some of Eastern's assets in 1990. Nash, who lived in Manassas, Virginia, and was based at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, was a mainstay for decades on flights from DCA to Boston and New York, routes she chose to be able to be home every night in order to take care of her son who has Down syndrome.

'Just evil,' police recount horrific details of baby girl's death at daycare

Allen Street Grill reopens with newly renovated interior

Bellefonte Borough accepts resignations of police chief, 2 other officers

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — The resignations of two police officers and the chief of police were accepted Monday night at Bellefonte Borough's council meeting. Bellefonte Borough police officers Matthew Pollock and Jason Brower resigned earlier this year and police chief Shawn Weaver resigned after being the chief since 2006. Borough officials are still not commenting on the reason for their resignations. The acting police chief of Bellefonte Borough is now William Witmer.
