Local first responders train for railroad incidents aboard Norfolk Southern safety train

Members from the City of Altoona Fire Department and local emergency management agencies went aboard Norfolk Southern’s safety train in Altoona on Tuesday. They say that because of the mainline railroad that runs through Altoona and Blair County, this type of training is very important to them. “There’s a lot of train traffic that comes through here, so it’s really important for us that we’re building those relationships with first responders and that the first responders here, for one thing, are familiar with our equipment and get the chance to train as they would for a kind of house fire or vehicle incident,” said Norfolk Sourthern’s senior communications manager Heather Garcia.

PSP investigating theft from Raystown Lake campground

HUNTINGDON CO, Pa (WJAC) — State police in Huntingdon are investigating a theft that occurred at one of the Raystown Lake campgrounds earlier this week, according to a report. Troopers say between 6:30 p.m. Thursday and 11:30 a.m. Friday, an unknown individual(s) stole $125 from a drop box, used for firewood sales, at the Senoia Campground. State police add that the drop box was also damaged. Anyone with information regarding the theft is asked to contact Huntingdon state police at 814-627-3161.

Toby Terrace residents to move back in after fire

BROCKWAY, Pa. -- We have an update to an apartment building fire out of Jefferson County. On January 29th, a fire tore through Toby Terrace Apartments in Brockway leaving 15 people without a home. Fortunately all of those people had places to go after being forced out. Thursday we learned they will soon be back in their apartments. Our cameras captured a restoration company working at Building B of the complex Thursday afternoon.

Hooversville man accused of sexually assaulting teen while she slept

SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — State police in Somerset County say a Hooversville man is behind bars following an investigation into allegations that he sexually assaulted a teenage girl. Police say in February, troopers were contacted to investigate reports of sexual abuse at a residence along Maple Avenue, in Hooversville Borough. Investigators say the victim, a 13-year-old girl, told troopers that she was staying at the home of a relative and was repeatedly assaulted by the relative's boyfriend, identified as 27-year-old Travis Taresco.

Postal service makes changes following Woodbury Post Office fire that killed woman

BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Officials provided new details Tuesday regarding the fire at Woodbury Post Office that burned Sunday into Monday morning, leaving one person dead. The autopsy for the victim took place Tuesday and the postal service will be making changes. 6 News spoke with the Bedford County coroner and USPS officials Tuesday. Bedford County Coroner Rusty Styer confirmed the victim was a woman, and that smoke inhalation and thermal injuries caused her death.
