Grampian man killed, passenger injured following high-speed chase in Clearfield Co.
Clearfield Co., PA (WJAC) — State police in Clearfield County say a Grampian man was killed over the weekend following a high-speed chase in Penn Township.
Troopers say on Saturday, around 11:30 p.m., police attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a black SUV in the area of Windy Hill Road.
Investigators say the driver, later identified as 38-year-old Matthew Chelgren, reportedly failed to stop and fled police at a high rate of speed.
MIT students arrested as police sweep anti-Israel protest encampment
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (TND) — Local police arrested multiple individuals Friday while disbursing an anti-Israel encampment at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
MIT is one of several campuses across the country where students occupied a portion of campus in solidarity with Gaza. Police intervention at these sites is becoming more common as protesters push legal boundaries.
Students were barred from accessing the MIT encampment Monday after police erected fencing and other barriers around the area.

BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Bedford County will soon be accessible to more people. One man is launching a shuttle service that will run an hour loop throughout the county.
Two years ago, when Pal Paranamana moved the Bedford he noticed one thing was missing, public transportation. That inspired Pal to create the Bedford Shuttle, which he says will cost $5 for people to ride. The plan is to have the shuttle take off from Bedford Springs and run a loop around the county.
Northern lights in Alabama? Rare solar storm could bring auroras to southern US
WASHINGTON (TND) — The U.S. Space Weather Prediction Center on Thursday issued a severe geomagnetic storm watch for a solar event which could impact a majority of Americans Friday into Saturday.
Officials explained in a release they expect an eruption of solar material, known as a coronal mass ejection (CME), to result in a geomagnetic storm. Along with the release was the rating of G4 for “severe,” which the agency has not issued since 2005.
Unified Command to refloat M/V Dali for relocation amid bridge recovery efforts

Coroner releases autopsy findings in death of Greentree Landfill employee
KERSEY - The Elk County Coroner has released the autopsy findings in the death of Greentree Landfill employee William Pierce.
Coroner Michelle Muccio said Pierce died from compression asphyxiation due to environmental entrapment. Muccio added that the death has been ruled accidental. Pierce, 49, of DuBois was pronounced dead Friday, nearly 48 hours after he got trapped in a landslide at the Greentree facility Wednesday.
Pierce worked at the location for 18 years and was also a lifelong member of the Oklahoma Civilian Defense Fire Company in Sandy Township, joining in 1994.

Juniata Gap Elementary class quarantined after faculty member tests positive for COVID-19
BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — A class in the Altoona Area School District is quarantining after a faculty member tested positive for COVID-19, officials said Monday.
School officials say the faculty member worked at Juniata Gap Elementary School and the person’s class will be quarantined through Wednesday as a precaution.
School officials say the families affected were directly notified and the classroom and other common areas will be completely sanitized and disinfected.
Penn State to resume in-person classes for part of fall semester
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WJAC) — Penn State has announced they will resume in-person classes for part of the fall semester before returning to all distance learning around Thanksgiving.
The fall semester will begin Monday, Aug. 24, but campus-based, residential instruction will end Friday, Nov. 20, with the remainder of the semester — including final exams — being delivered remotely and online when classes resume after Thanksgiving break on Nov. 30, according to a release from Penn State.
