Biden urges Americans to watch more women's sports: 'Not just during championships'
WASHINGTON (TND) — President Joe Biden on Friday urged more Americans to watch women’s sports.
His comments follow the highly anticipated home debut of first overall WNBA draft pick Caitlin Clark on Thursday. Over 13,000 people attended that game, a huge increase from the 2023 regular season average of 4,000.
As a nation, we need to support women’s sports by showing up in person and watching on TV – with more sponsorships and programming,” Biden said.

Officials continue to discuss renovation plans for former Centre Crest nursing home
Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — Besides facilities at Penn State, the former Centre Crest nursing home in Bellefonte is one of the county's largest buildings.
The county still owns the building, and with a new Centre Crest facility now open, architects are now studying what’s best in terms of renovating the nearly 85-year-old property.

With close to 120-thousand-square-feet of usable space, there's been talk of leasing part of the building, but county administrators say it’s too early for that decision.
Rolling Stones mark 100th concert at Gillette Stadium
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WJAR) — The Rolling Stones made history in Foxborough Thursday night as they performed the venue's 100th concert at the Gillette Stadium.
It's part of their Hackney Diamonds Tour.
The rock and roll hall of famers also performed the first concert in Gillette Stadium history on Sept. 2, 2002.
NBC 10 talked with fans who traveled from as far as Nova Scotia to see the band.
For many, it's not the first time they're seeing The Rolling Stones perform.
Somerset man jailed, accused of soliciting sexual photos from girls via Snapchat
Somerset Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities say a Somerset man has been charged for allegedly paying for nude photos and videos from two minor girls.
Police say that, starting in January of 2022, 21-year-old Anthony Latuch allegedly paid more than $1,000 to the girls for sexual material over the messaging app Snapchat.
Police say that Latuch also had sex with one of the girls at his South Kimberly Avenue apartment.
CDC report highlights trauma first responders face, great need for mental health programs
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — In a report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday, the National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health, a CDC agency that conducts research and provides training, data and publication, said first responders are at a high risk of occupational exposure to traumatic events and stress.
Included in the technical list by the CDC were firefighters (structural and wildland), law enforcement officers, EMS clinicians and corrections personnel.
Centre Co. woman stole money from relative; claims she sent it to 'Kevin Costner'
Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities with the Spring Township Police Department have filed charges against a Bellefonte woman who allegedly admitted to stealing thousands of dollars from an 82-year-old relative.
Police say 52-year-old Carol Sumner is accused of stealing over $65,000 from the victim, over a period of several months.
During the course of the investigation, police learned that Sumner was also the subject of an investigation into a scam network in California.
Coroner identifies woman killed in Woodbury post office fire
WOODBURY, Pa. (WJAC) — Authorities have identified the woman killed in the fire that destroyed the Woodbury Post Office last weekend.
Bedford County Coroner Rusty Styer says 64-year-old Cynthia Louise Albright died of smoke inhalation and thermal injuries.
The fire started around 6:30 p.m. on Independence Day, ripping through the post office, and apartments above, located on Main Street.
Styer says Albright was a Woodbury resident.
She was identified through DNA comparison, Styer says.
El Salvador native charged for firing gun inside Bellefonte home
Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities in Centre County say a native of El Salvador is behind bars following a shots fired investigation.
Police say on Tuesday, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of East Lamb Street, in Bellefonte, after multiple residents reported hearing shots being fired.
Authorities say one of the residents told 911 dispatchers that they heard approximately six shots.
Upon further investigation, police obtained a search warrant for the home, where the shots reportedly came from, and officers made contact with a man who spoke "

Fifty-two House Democrats joined all Republicans Thursday to repeal Washington, DC's law allowing noncitizens to vote in local elections.
The number of Democrats voting for the measure, H.R. 192, was 10 more compared to how many voted for a similar measure last year.
