Even in the face of mortal danger, the citizens of Johnstown immediately turned their thoughts towards others. Many braved the chaos and headed out to assist in any way they could. The city showed remarkable resiliency and unity in the wake of the tragedy.

ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — A criminal complaint is providing more details about what led to a shooting Wednesday at the Central Court building in Altoona that claimed the life of a corrections officer. Authorities were called to the court facility, located at 615 4th Street, just after 3 p.m. for reports of shots fired and an officer down. Crews responded to find that 47-year-old Rhonda Russell had been shot in the holding area.

Blair Co. church to host its first ever living nativity scene

Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — Members of the Faith Baptist Church in Altoona are getting ready to host their first ever live nativity. It features real people portraying the roles of those involved in the story of the birth of Jesus Christ. Visitors to the display will start at the Faith Baptist Church, located on 40th Street, where they will receive popcorn and hot chocolate and a QR code to use on their phones to listen to audio that accompanies the production.

Kastle Boxing holds first ever Battle at the Kastle

Kastle Boxing held their first ever “Battle at the Kastle” event on Saturday. Kastle Boxing is a non-profit USA Boxing registered team that trains everyone from amateurs to professionals. Somerset Co., PA (WJAC) — **2nd UPDATE** Authorities in Somerset County are providing new details about Friday's fatal shooting at a residence along Charles Street in Shade Township. According to the affidavit, investigators say just before 11 a.m. Friday, state police received a 911 call from the alleged suspect, 67-year-old Gregory Mostoller. Police say Mostoller reportedly told authorities "a guy came at me with a wrench, and I killed him."

Tornado rips roof off Pennsylvania church with congregation inside

Union Township, PA (CNN) — A tornado tore the roof off of a Pennsylvania church over the weekend while people were gathered inside for a service. Video shows the confirmed tornado that violently tore through neighborhoods, ripping off roofs and uprooting massive trees in Union Township. Crossroads Ministries Church was having a service when the tornado came barreling their way. Pastor Ken Barner says about 100 people, including babies, were inside at the time.

Tyrone man sentenced to serve max of 22 years for fatal DUI crash that killed woman

Huntingdon Co., PA (WJAC) — A Tyrone man who was charged in a fatal DUI-related crash that killed a Warriors Mark woman has been sentenced, according to Huntingdon County District Attorney David Smith. Authorities say Richard Ewing, 43, was sentenced to serve 11 to 22 years in prison for causing the fatal crash on Route 350 that claimed the life of 59-year-old Wendy Reitz last June. Police say Ewing was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash.
