Five elephants being taken care of in Somerset County

Elephants can be found roaming the land in Somerset County, at the International Conservation Center as part of the Pittsburgh Zoo's efforts to help the species. Today the conservation center opened to a group of people to see the elephants, one event of ‘Remake Learning Days,’ which runs from May 4-23. Curriculum Specialist at Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8 Brenda Calhoun said, “ International Conservation Center representatives said they have five elephants, including a 1-year-old calf on the nearly 1,000 acres of land.

Steelers signing WR Van Jefferson to one-year deal

PITTSBURGH (WJAC) — The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly signing wide-receiver Van Jefferson to a one-year deal. Steelers inside reporter Gerry Dulac says the move is for "depth purposes." Jefferson was drafted by the LA Rams in 2020 and was part of their Super Bowl championship team in 2021. He was then traded to the Atlanta Falcons last season. In four NFL seasons, Jefferson has played in 61 total games and has caught 113 passes, for 1,600 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Geistown homicide trial begins; jurors visit crime scene

Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — The trial began Monday for a Johnstown man accused of stabbing a woman to death over the price of a refrigerator during a Facebook Marketplace sale gone wrong. Joshua Gorgone appeared in front of a jury Monday in Cambria County court. He is charged with criminal homicide in the death of 54-year-old Denise Williams in April of last year. Investigators say Williams’ body was found in Gorgone's Geistown apartment, on Old Scalp Avenue, with dozens of stab wounds.

Investigators remember nearly 40-year-old murder case featured in series

PA DOC announces plan for phased reopening of state prisons
