Sheetz aims for Ebensburg liquor license, worrying business owners
EBENSBURG -- After canceling a public hearing on its attempts to get a liquor license here, Sheetz is causing local beer sellers to worry that they might soon see a dip in sales.
Sheetz, which recently acquired a liquor license in Carrolltown, said Tuesday it is looking to start selling beer and wine at any of its stores that it can.
For local business owners who have to compete with Sheetz, though, that could spell disaster.
1 dies after small plane crashes into Florida building
FORT PIERCE, Fla. (WPEC) — One person died after a small plane crashed into a building in Florida, according to sheriff's authorities. Deputies said the crash occurred at 12:04 p.m. Thursday near Fort Pierce at the intersection of Sneed Road and Orange Avenue.
The plane hit a building with an RV inside, according to the St. Lucie County Fire Rescue Department. No one was inside the building.
Video taken at the crash site shows the damage left behind, rescue crews were still at the scene.
Clearfield County retail stores reopen during yellow phase
DuBois, PA — For Jennifer Jackson, owner of Brady Street Florist in DuBois, the coronavirus pandemic hit her business hard.
She expected a big break during the spring but all of her wedding and prom engagements were cancelled.
Since transitioning into the yellow phase today, Jackson said business is looking up with Mother's Day right around the corner.
Since people aren't visiting their parents during the pandemic, she's been sending out a lot flower deliveries.
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — The Ghost Town Trail has officially been named the 2020 trail of the year.
The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources announced the accomplishment Monday, noting the trail’s rich history of railroading.
Formed 25 years ago, the Ghost Town Trail was originally just a 12-mile stretch before transforming into the 46-mile trail it is now, running through former coal mining towns.
Once its upcoming extension is complete, the Ghost Town Trail is close to becoming the first continuous loop of rail trail in eastern United States history.
Greater Johnstown SD hiring four police officers
According to officials at Greater Johnstown there has been just one resource officer in the district with four buildings. They said Greater Johnstown Elementary last having a resource officer in October 2022 and the high school has not had one since November.
These four officers will be employees of the school district according to officials rather than before having resource officers with the Johnstown Police Department at the schools.
The officers will be paid for out of the school’s general fund and officials said it will be able to be sustained.
Local VFW Post talks recruitment struggles amid similar reports nationwide
CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — If you attend any services throughout Memorial Day weekend, you will most likely see honor guards present. However, in recent years, there have been some reports around the country of local units struggling with recruitment.
One honor guard unit traveled to a number of churches on Sunday in Centre County to give their salute, and will do so again on Memorial Day.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WJAC) — The 6 News team learned Thursday they were honored with statewide awards for excellence in journalism.
WJAC-TV won six Keystone Media Awards for stories aired in 2020. The awards are organized by the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association as a way to, "reinforce excellence by individuals in the news media profession, by recognizing journalism that consistently provides relevance, integrity, and initiative in serving readers and audiences, and faithfully fulfills its First Amendment rights/responsibilities.
Annual Labor Day tractor parade honors 6-year-old boy killed in Cambria Co. DUI crash
Cambria Co., PA (WJAC) — In Cambria County, the fourth annual Ed Dumm Memorial tractor parade was held Monday in Nicktown.
This year, the parade was held in honor of Vincent "Vinny" Rietscha IV, a local 6-year-old boy who was killed in a DUI crash earlier this year.
We spoke with Vinny’s father about how his family is honored to have the community's support.
Organizers say close to 100 tractors took part in the parade.
Authorities ID body of boy, 12, found dead inside Philadelphia dumpster
PHILADELPHIA (WCAU) — A shocking discovery was made in Philadelphia after police found the body of a 12-year-old boy placed in a trash can.
Philadelphia police say a sanitation worker picked up a trash container from a street last Tuesday and took it to a nearby storage facility where it was housed overnight.
But only when he made another trip a day later, the body was discovered.
Authorities said an autopsy showed the boy was shot in the head.
