CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Serving over 60 varieties of chocolates, O'Shea's candies has been in business for almost 90 years, selling sweet treats for decades worth of Easters.
"Easter weekend is a big weekend for us," said Karen Brubaker, who is the third generation of the O'Shea family.
Johnstown is a very special place. We have something very special here. People come back year after year. They have acquired our taste for our chocolate. When a lot of them move away, they call us saying, 'Do you ship?' Which we do," Brubaker told 6 News.Known for their pure chocolate, peanut butter meltaways, and liquid cherries, they're also especially popular for those chocolate bunnies, crosses, and candy around the Easter holiday.
They're also famous for making their candies the "old fashioned" way -- since 1934 -- keeping customers loyal to their flavor for almost nine decades.
"We have a lot of people that come in to visit mom and dad, and this is where they head after they eat lunch. We see a lot of people we ship to, and now these times of year, we get to actually see them in our stores," Brubaker said.
They have three locations across Western PA: Geistown, Westmont, and Ligonier.
Just like their chocolates, their business has also been 'molded' through five generations of family members, making your purchase that much sweeter.
"We have been in chocolate all of our life. As a little girl, I worked with my grandmother at the factory and watched her hand-decorate all these Easter eggs. It's such a fun world."
Those five generations are even bringing in new generations.
"They're now bringing in their grandchildren. They've already acquired our taste, so they'll be a forever customer also," Brubaker told 6 News.
