CENTRE COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — State police say a resident of the Netherlands is jailed in Centre County, accused of repeatedly harassing a woman and then flying to the United States and showing up at her work.
Investigators say the woman told police that she first met 23-year-old Tarik Hasan last year via the social media app known as WhatsApp.
After several months of communication, on multiple social media platforms, police say the woman told troopers that she ended the alleged "relationship" with Hasan.
According to the affidavit, investigators say in January, Hasan reportedly flew to the United States and then texted the woman when he arrived in State College.
Authorities say the woman described feeling "very uncomfortable" about the situation and purchased a plane ticket for Hasan to return home.
Police say the woman also stated that she believed that Hasan was going to attempt to assault her.
Troopers say the woman allegedly reiterated to Hasan that she no longer wanted to communicate with him.
Last week, authorities say Hasan reportedly returned to the State College area and again attempted to meet with the woman.
When the victim did not respond to his messages, Hasan allegedly showed up at her work at the Student Health Center, located on Penn State's campus.
Police say Hasan was repeatedly asked to leave the building and later attempted to follow the woman into an employee office.
According to the affidavit, Hasan allegedly sent more than 50 messages to the victim.
Troopers say he also admitted to purchasing a secondary phone in an attempt to contact the woman, after she reportedly blocked his number.
According to online court records, Hasan was arraigned Tuesday on multiple counts of harassment by communication, as well as charges of felony criminal trespass and harassment in a public place.
He is jailed on $100,000 bail and investigators noted that he is not a United States citizen and is considered a "flight risk."
