Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities in Centre County say the man charged for killing a Penn State student with his car last month has reportedly been released from jail, despite having a $3 million bond.
Police charged 20-year-old Ahmed Alqubaisi with homicide by vehicle and involuntary manslaughter after he struck and killed a fellow international student while she was jogging on the sidewalk.
Police say witnesses told officers that Alqubaisi allegedly made a sudden, sharp turn onto the sidewalk after driving at a high-rate of speed down East Park Ave, on the night of Sept. 12th.
Authorities say the victim, who was identified as 25-year-old Lovisa Arnesson-Cronhamre, reportedly suffered several serious injuries in the crash, including a brain bleed, which she later succumbed to.
Police noted that Alqubaisi, who was reportedly suspended by the university, does not possess a valid driver's license, only a 4-year learner's permit.
Authorities say Alqubaisi has been considered a flight risk due to his suspension from school and his ties to the Middle Eastern country of the United Arab Emirates.
Alqubaisi was previously ordered to surrender his passport and was to be fitted with a GPS tracking device.
