Johnstown, Pa — Gas stations across our region were quite busy this Fourth of July.
Sheetz was just one of the gas stations that decreased the price of gas to $1.776 as a patriotic nod to our nation's birthday.
6 News spoke with many drivers who happily took advantage of this sale.
“It’s awesome," said one customer at a Cambria County Sheetz. "It gets people out and about on the fourth of July. You know, they can go see their families for cheaper.”
Many people added 'get gas' to their to do list Tuesday as gas stations like Sheetz drastically lowered the price in honor of Independence Day.
“It’s actually nice for once," said another Sheetz customer getting gas. "A dollar seventy-seven a gallon, you can’t beat that. To fill this thing up from empty is like eighty dollars and now I’m at seven gallons at fourteen buck right now so big difference.”
Another customer Channel 6 spoke with said this is a wonderful promotion for Sheetz, “I think it was very nice of them to do this. I think it was good, brought everybody out. What they ought to do is be selling hot dogs and hamburgers over here on the corner.”
But there was no room for any grilling in many Sheetz parking lots as they were jammed packed with cars waiting for their turn to fill up their gas tank.
“This reminds you of the gas lines in the seventies," said one gentleman. "You’d have lines backed up for half a mile or more sometimes.”
Another customer added, “The lines out the door, but I mean everybody’s coming for the same reason, cheap gas, can’t beat it.”
And what added to the lines being so long could be because many people were filling up more than just their gas tank.
“Like that guy over there he has like thirty gas cans. I mean, just fill your car up. You wonder why people are here for forty-five minutes," said one customer. "Just fill your car up and go.”
Several local Rutter's locations were also seen with the low gas prices.
Channel 6 also reached out to them about their prices and they said no comment.
The price of gas at Sheetz will increase back to its normal price at midnight.
