Authorities in Centre County say a native of El Salvador is behind bars following a shots fired investigation.

Police say on Tuesday, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of East Lamb Street, in Bellefonte, after multiple residents reported hearing shots being fired.

Authorities say one of the residents told 911 dispatchers that they heard approximately six shots.

Upon further investigation, police obtained a search warrant for the home, where the shots reportedly came from, and officers made contact with a man who spoke "little English."

Police say a search of the home also led to the discovery of a firearm and ammunition.

Authorities say the man, later identified as 39-year-old Elias Quintanilla, admitted to purchasing the firearm from a man in Arkansas "for personal protection."

According to the affidavit, police say Quintanilla, via an interpreter, also admitted to firing six shots into the home, from the backyard.

Police noted that Quintanilla is not a registered citizen of the United States and is prohibited from possessing a firearm, of any kind.

According to online court records, Quintanilla was arraigned Wednesday on charges of discharging a firearm into an occupied structure, illegal firearms possession, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.

He is being held at the Centre County Prison on $100,000 bail.
